NYCFC Stays Unbeaten With Shutout Of Orlando City

New York City Football Club beat Orlando City SC, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium, with both goals coming in the second half.

NYCFC improved to 3-0-0 on the season, the first time they have done so in their history. It is the longest they have remain unbeaten since their inaugural season in 2015. That season, they had a win and two draws in their first three games, so this squad is off to their best start ever, talking all nine possible points so far this season.

NCAA Tournament: Seton Hall Opens With Win Over NC State

Seton Hall opened the NCAA Tournament with a 94-83 win over North Carolina State in Wichita on Thursday afternoon.

Khadeen Carrington led the way for the Hall, as he had 26 points on 6-14 shooting, 3-5 on three-pointers, and he drained 11 free throws.

Seton Hall’s balanced attack continued with big contributions off the bench from two players who battled injuries down the stretch, Desi Rodriguez and Ismael Sanogo.

Red Bulls – Chivas Champions League Information

The Red Bulls and Chivas Guadalajara will face off in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Semifinals on April 4 and April 10.

The first leg will be in Mexico on Wednesday April 4 at 10 p.m. eastern time kick off and will host the return leg at Red Bull Arena on Tuesday, April 10 at 8 p.m.

Red Bulls Roll Past Tijuana In Champions League

The Red Bulls, after falling behind early, rallied to a 3-1 win over Club Tijuana on Tuesday night at Red Bull Arena in the second leg of their CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinal matchup.

This result coupled with the Red Bulls’ 2-0 win in Mexico last Tuesday, means they advance on the 5-1 aggregate.

The Red Bulls are now in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Semifinals for the first time in club history.

The win secures a home match in the second leg of the semifinals against the winner of the Seattle/Guadalajara series, which has the second leg tomorrow night.

Ponds Named To NABC All-District Second Team

The accolades keep pouring in for St. John’s sophomore guard Shamorie Ponds.

Last week, he was named to the All-Big East First Team and USBWA All-District Team honors.

Ponds has now been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ All-District Second Team for the second-straight season.

A 6-foot-1 guard from Brooklyn, Ponds led the Big East in scoring (21.6 ppg) and steals (2.3 spg) during the regular season while also finishing top-5 in the conference in assists (4.7 apg).

The ACC Tournament was held last week at Barclays Center, with Virginia beating North Carolina on Saturday night to cap off an incredible tournament.

Virginia, the number one seed in the ACC Tournament, finished the regular season as the top team in the nation, and they will enter the NCAA Tournament as the top overall seed, expected to break through and win a national championship.

Edgardo Alfonzo Back As Cyclones Manager

Edgardo Alfonzo will return as Brooklyn Cyclones manager for the 2018 season, his fifth year with the Cyclones organization and second as manager.

The Mets legend, known as “Fonzie,” will be joined on the bench by pitching coach Royce Ring, also returning for his second season in that role, and newcomer Marlon Anderson (hitting coach). An additional coach will be added to the staff in the coming weeks.

The Cyclones will open their 2018 season with on Friday, June 15th at the Staten Island Yankees, with the home opener against Staten Island the following night.

ACC Sends Nine Teams To NCAA Tournament

The Atlantic Coast Conference, who just had their tournament in Brooklyn, has tied the league record it set last season by placing nine teams in the 2018 NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Virginia, who won the ACC Tournament on Saturday night in a win over North Carolina, is the Number One overall seed in the field.  Duke and North Carolina enter as Number Two seeds. North Carolina beat Duke in the semifinal of the conference tournament to earn that spot.

The Cavaliers, Blue Devils and Tar Heels are joined by Clemson, Florida State, Miami, NC State, Syracuse and Virginia Tech among the field of 68 teams unveiled early Sunday evening.

NYCFC & Red Bulls Win Home Openers

This weekend saw both the Red Bulls and New York City Football Club win their home openers.

The Red Bulls won 4-0 over the Portland Timbers on Saturday night at Red Bull Arena, while NYCFC won 2-1 over the LA Galaxy on Sunday night at Yankee Stadium.

Red Bulls 4, Portland 0

The Red Bulls won at Red Bull Arena on Saturday night over Portland in what was their first game of the MLS season. Though the MLS started play last weekend, they were essentially given a bye week because of their participation in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Virginia Beats North Carolina To Win ACC Championship

The Virginia Cavaliers won the ACC Championship in a 71-63 victory over North Carolina on Saturday night at Barclays Center.

This is Virginia’s third ACC Championship, and second in the last five years under Head Coach Tony Bennett. They lost to UNC in the title game two years ago, so this was a measure of revenge.

Virginia, now 31-2 on the season. was the top seed in this tournament in addition to being the top-ranked team in the nation, and they are primed to be Number One overall in the NCAA Tournament.
