The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced on today’s telecast of Sunday NFL Countdown on ESPN that Charles Woodson, the All-America defensive back at Michigan from 1995-97, will be a member of the 2018 College Football Hall of Fame Class.
Woodson, who currently works as an NFL analyst on the ESPN show, was surprised by the program’s host Sam Ponder, who handed him a commemorative football provided by the NFF to mark the announcement.

The hosts were actress Susan Lucci, known for the classic soap opera All My Children, and Maurice DuBois, an Anchor from WCBS-TV here in New York City.

The New York Red Bulls’ MLS Cup dreams ended earlier than expected when they were eliminated from the Audi 2016 MLS Cup Playoffs with a 2-1 loss to the Montreal Impact on Sunday night at Red Bull Arena. The Red Bulls lose the Eastern Conference Semifinal series 3-1 on aggregate.
Ignacio Piatti scored for the Impact in the 51st minute to increase the aggregate lead to 2-0 and give the Impact the all-important away goal. Piatti would get a second late in the game to seal the win.

Red Bull Arena announced today the plan to host concerts and live entertainment events beginning in 2017 at the venue located in Harrison, N.J. The 25,000-seat, two-level stadium is home to the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer.
Located just minutes outside of New York City, Red Bull Arena opened in March 2010 and has become one of the most respected venues in the Tri-State Area. Due to the translucent roof to allow for natural light and seats within the bowl covered from precipitation, the venue has been a fan favorite for its comfort with every seat covered from inclement weather.

On Tuesday, Major League Baseball announced that Curtis Granderson was named the New York Mets 2016 nominee for the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award, the most prominent individual player award bestowed by MLB.
Granderson will be recognized on the field prior to the Mets’ home game on Tuesday, September 20
The Roberto Clemente Award is the annual recognition of a player from each MLB Club who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.
Each Club nominates one current player to be considered for the Roberto Clemente Award in tribute to Clemente’s achievements and character.
Wednesday, September 7 marks the fifteenth annual Roberto Clemente Day, which was established by Major League Baseball to honor Clemente’s legacy and to officially acknowledge local Club nominees of the Roberto Clemente Award.

New York Red Bulls forward Bradley Wright-Phillips was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the 23rd week of the 2016 MLS season.
With a brace in Saturday’s 3-1 win over the Montreal Impact, Wright-Phillips became the Red Bulls’ all-time regular season leading goal scorer with 59 goals, surpassing club legend Juan Pablo Angel’s record of 58.
Wright-Phillips now has 14 tallies this season, good for second in the Golden Boot race, and four assists. The prolific striker has helped the Red Bulls climb to third place in the Eastern Conference standings (36 points, 10-9-6 record) while claiming a seven-game unbeaten streak in MLS play. The Red Bulls are undefeated this year when Wright-Phillips records a goal or assist, going 7-0-4.

The 2016 NIT Season Tip-Off at Barclays Center features a Thanksgiving afternoon semifinal doubleheader of Temple vs. Florida State, followed by Illinois vs. West Virginia on Thursday, November 24. All four teams will return to action on Friday, November 25, when a championship will be awarded.
Temple, making its sixth NIT Season Tip-Off appearance, and West Virginia, making its third appearance in the event, return to Barclays Center, where both teams played in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. After earning a bid to the 2016 Postseason NIT, Florida State will make its third appearance in the early season version this year. Illinois will be making its debut appearance in the tournament.
Thursday, November 24 12:30 p.m. – Temple vs. Florida State –
ESPN2 or ESPNU & 2:30 p.m. Illinois vs. West Virginia – ESPN2 or ESPNU
Fri, Nov 25 12:30 p.m. – 3rd Place Game -ESPNU & 3pm Championship ESPN2
Each of the four championship round teams will also host two non-bracketed games on campus as part of the event. The complete schedule of the campus-site games will be announced at a later date.
Tickets for the NIT Season Tip-Off at Barclays Center will go on sale Friday, July 22, at 10 a.m. and can be purchased via Ticketmaster by visiting www.barclayscenter.com, or www.ticketmaster.com, or by calling 800-745-3000. Tickets are also available at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center beginning Saturday, July 23, at noon. Tickets are available for groups by calling 855-GROUP-BK.
Now in its second year at Barclays Center, the NIT Season Tip-Off has been played in New York each November since 1985. Defending NCAA National Champion Villanova won the event in 2015.
