Mets Analyst Darling To Take Medical Leave From SNY

SNY broadcasting analyst Ron Darling a announced on Saturday night during the Mets’ game with the Atlanta Braves that he will be taking a temporary medical leave following this game.

Doctors have been monitoring Darling over the last few months and tests revealed a mass on his chest.

Darling is now scheduled for a medical procedure next week. The doctors have told him that if there are no complications he should be back in the booth alongside Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez next month.

“My health is the top priority right now for my family and I,” said Darling. “I’m looking forward to being back in the booth with our crew and my friends Gary and Keith as soon as I can.”

Mets Owners Fred and Jeff Wilpon said in a statement, “Our thoughts and prayers continuously remain with Ron for a full recovery and we look forward to seeing him back in the broadcast booth soon.”

Darling won a World Championship with the Mets as a pitcher in 1986 and has been an analyst on SNY since its creation in 2006.

SNY studio analyst and former New York Met Todd Zeile will fill in for Darling during his medical leave.
