Virginia Beats North Carolina To Win ACC Championship

The Virginia Cavaliers won the ACC Championship in a 71-63 victory over North Carolina on Saturday night at Barclays Center.

This is Virginia’s third ACC Championship, and second in the last five years under Head Coach Tony Bennett. They lost to UNC in the title game two years ago, so this was a measure of revenge.

Virginia, now 31-2 on the season. was the top seed in this tournament in addition to being the top-ranked team in the nation, and they are primed to be Number One overall in the NCAA Tournament.

ACC Semifinals: North Carolina Wins A Classic With Duke

North Carolina beat Duke in an utter classic, 74-69, in the ACC Semifinals on Friday night at Barclays Center.

North Carolina will take on Virginia in the ACC Championship Game Saturday night at 8:30 pm. This is the second time they are facing off in the title game in three seasons, which was won by North Carolina.

North Carolina was led by Luke Maye, who had a double-double with 17 points on 8-18 shooting, and 10 rebounds, six of which came on the offensive end. He also had four assists.

Joel Berry II had 13 points (3-11 FG< 3-7 three-pointers), with six assists and five rebounds.

Cameron Johnson, Kenny Williams, and Garrison Brooks had 10 apiece, with Williams also racking up six assists and six rebounds.

The biggest stats for North Carolina were that they had 18 offensive rebounds and 24 assists.

ACC Semifinals: Virginia Gets By Clemson To Reach Final

The Virginia Cavaliers, the number one ranked team in the country and here in Brooklyn at the ACC Tournament, knocked off four-seeded Clemson 64-58 on Friday night in the semifinals.

The Cavaliers move on to the ACC Championship Game Saturday night against the winner of Duke and North Carolina. This is the ninth ACC final appearance for Virginia.

ACC Day 3: North Carolina Stuns Miami To Set Up Meeting With Duke

The North Carolina Tar Heels erased a 14-0 deficit by halftime on their way to an 82-65 victory over the Miami Hurricanes in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday night at Barclays Center.

The win set up a meeting with archrival Duke in the semifinals for the second straight season. Tip-off will be Friday night at 9:30 pm.

ACC Day 3: Duke, Led By Bagley & Allen, Powers Past Notre Dame

Duke, led by big performances from Marvin Bagley III and Grayson Allen, pulled away in the second half and beat Notre Dame, 88-70 in the ACC Quarterfinals on Thursday night at Barclays Center.

Bagley led the way for Duke, with 33 points, 23 of which came in a second half in which he shot a near-perfect 11-12 from the field. He shot 15-23 overall on the night, including 2-3 on three pointers. He also did it on the boards, collecting 17 rebounds to earn a double-double.

Allen scored 23 points on the night, and 15 of them came in the first 10 minutes of the game. He shot a superb 7-10 on the night, including 5-6 from three-point range.

ACC Day 3 Afternoon Session: Virginia, Clemson Win, Will Meet In Semis

In the afternoon session of the third day of the ACC Tournament at Barclays Center on Thursday, Virginia beat Louisville 75-58, while Clemson beat Boston College, 90-82.

Virginia, the top seed in the tournament, and fourth-seeded Clemson will meet on Friday night at 7 pm in the semifinals.

Big East Tournament: #1 Xavier Rolls By St. John’s

The St. John’s Red Storm’s roller-coaster ride of a season ended on Thursday afternoon when they lost in the Big East Tournament Quarterfinals to top-seeded Xavier 88-60.

St. John’s, who beat Georgetown on Wednesday night and were back on the floor at noon Thursday, hung in there for the first half, trailing by just four, 32-28, at halftime.

ACC Day 2 Night Session: Notre Dame & North Carolina Move On

The evening part of the second day of the ACC Tournament saw Notre Dame coming from behind to beat Virginia Tech and North Carolina rolling to a victory over Syracuse.

Notre Dame Figthing Irish 71, Virginia Tech 65

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish came back from 13 points down at halftime to stun Virginia Tech 71-65.

Matt Farrell led the way for Notre Dame, as he scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half. Farrell shot 5-13 from the field, including 4-11 from behind the arc, while also getting five rebounds and five assists.

Big East Tournament: St. John’s Beats Georgetown Again

For the second straight year, St. John’s knocked off Georgetown on the opening night of the Big East Tournament, as they came away with an 88-77 victory on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.

It will be a quick turnaround for St. John’s, as they will play at noon on Thursday against top-seeded Xavier.

St. John’s was led by Shamorie Ponds, who poured in 26 points on 9-14 from the field, with three assists and two rebounds. Ponds was named to the All-Big East First Team this past Sunday, so he certainly showed why he was worthy of the honor.

Justin Simon and Marvin Clark II had 16 points apiece. Simon shot 5-6 from the field and notched 10 rebounds for a double-double, along with six assists. Clark shot 6-14 overall and 2-4 from behind the arc, along with four rebounds and an assist.

ACC Day 2: Boston College Stuns NC State

The Boston College Eagles, who entered the ACC Tournament as the 12th seed, upset the 5th seed North Carolina State Wolfpack, 91-87, on Wednesday afternoon.

Boston College got incredible performances from Jerome Robinson and Ky Bowman.

Robinson led BC with 26 points on 9-20 from the field, including a three-pointer, with five assists, two steals, and two rebounds. Bowman had 24 points on 8-19 from the field, including 2-5 from behind the arc, with six rebounds and four assists.
