Tariq Owens announced on Monday afternoon that he is leaving the St. John’s Red Storm men’s basketball program to pursue a graduate transfer opportunity.
The 6-foot-11 redshirt junior from Odenton, Md. is on track to receive his bachelor’s degree from St. John’s this summer.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to represent St. John’s during my three years with the program,” said Owens.
“I’ve had a great experience here, but at this time my family and I feel this decision is best for me.”
“We wish Tariq well in his future,” said Head Coach Chris Mullin.
Owens appeared in 65 games during his two seasons in Queens. The Tennessee transfer averaged 5.2 points and 5.2 rebounds playing 18.8 minutes per game as a redshirt sophomore in 2016-17. This past season, Owens started 26 of 33 appearances and recorded 8.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest.
