It turns out the second-round pick the Nets got for Tyshawn Taylor was already picked, in 2006. It’s 29-year old Bosnian power forward Edin Bavcic, currently playing in Greece.
Bavcic isn’t likely to ever play in the NBA, though his big frame, frightening appearance, and penchant for perimeter jumpers might remind you of the Hawks’ Pero Antic.
So why make the deal? The Nets were able to obtain a better point guard in Marquis Teague, while simultaneously saving money.
The Nets are the fourth team to hold Bavcic’s rights. He was drafted by the Toronto Raptors, and immediately sent to Philadelphia on draft night. He has since appeared in the trade that sent Jarrett Jack to Golden State, and the Tyshawn Taylor salary dump.
