Monday night: Yankees 4, Washington 2
Giancarlo Stanton led the way for the Yankees, as he went 4-for-5 with two RBI.
Stanton got the Yankees on the board in the first when he had an RBI single, and then he had an RBI double in the seventh to make it 4-2 at the time.
Washington jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning, but Aaron Hicks answered with a two-run shot in the fifth to give the Yankees a 3-2 edge.
Sonny Gray earned the win for the Yankees, ans his record improved to 5-4 on the season. He went five innings on two runs and six hits and a walk, with seven strikeouts.
Aroldis Chapman earned his 21st save of the season, as he worked around a hit and a walk.
June 22, 1998: Yankees 6, Atlanta 4
The Braves got on the board first in this one as ex-Yankee Gerald Williams got a two-run double in the top of the third.
The Yankees came right back against Braves starter Greg Maddux, as Paul O’Neill and Tino Martinez each had RBI singled to tie it at 2.
It stayed that way until the sixth, when Javy Lopez got an RBI single off Pettitte to make it 3-2 Atlanta, but Darryl Strawberry got the run back with an RBI single off Maddux in the bottom half of the frame.
Atlanta took the lead back in the seventh when Chipper Jones got an RBI single off Pettitte.
With Dennis Martinez in for the Braves in the bottom of the seventh, the Yankees rallied. Tim Raines got a two-run double, followed by a Chad Curtis RBI single to make it 6-4.
Pettitte went 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on eights hits and two walks, with five strikeouts.
Jeff Nelson, who came in for the last out of the seventh, earned the win to improve to 5-3 on the season.
Mariano Rivera pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 17th save of the season.
Where they stand: The 2018 Yankees (47-22) remain four games off the pace of the 1998 team, which was 51-18 through 69 games.
