The Yankees and the USO hosted over 250 volunteers on Friday morning at Yankee Stadium’s Great Hall to help assemble more than 5,000 USO Care Packages for active duty service members.

Yankees front office employees and veterans were on hand to help prepare care packages in support of Holidays for Heroes.

YES Network broadcasters Michael Kay and David Cone were on hand and spoke to the crowd, which included volunteers from Delta, Disney, FedEx, Just Born and MetLife.

The USO will distribute the packs to troops serving in remote units across the world during this holiday season. In addition, the New York Yankees Foundation presented the USO with a contribution in support of this effort.

“It’s a great match, the USO and the Yankees,” Cone said on Friday morning. “This is the seventh year, and I could see this going on for a long time. The impact it’s had has been remarkable, especially during the holidays when you think about the troops that are away from their families. It’s hard to imagine being away from your family for the holidays. Maybe these care packages bring a little smile for a day, and maybe that’s enough.”
